Thematic Group Minimally Invasive Technologies

MIC Minimal Invasive Medizin

After the first great success in laparoscopic surgery, particularly in the removal of the gallbladder, minimally invasive surgical procedures were continuously improved and could be extended to an increasing range of indications. The benefits of minimally invasive surgery are obvious: smaller scars, faster healing time, less risk of infection, decreased complication rates. However, these procedures are partly connected with very high technical complexity and high operation costs.

Technical innovations such as endoscopy, navigation, or single-port systems on the one hand as well as strategic and economic issues of this surgical method on the other hand are the central topics of this thematic group.
